The Navasota Grimes County Chamber of Commerce welcomes AutoTrust Repairs of Navasota to the chamber with an official ribbon cutting Thursday May 15. Located at 9309 Hwy 6 Navasota, the group offers alignments, maintenance services, major and minor repairs and is currently expanding their operations with a second service bay.

The Grimes County Retired School Personnel participated in their annual book delivery. The group gives all Grimes County prekindergarten and kindergarten students at least two books of their own to take home. This project began several years ago and continues as a way for the organization to promote and encourage reading at an early age. Susan Boudreau chairs the project and is assisted by Marilyn Bettes. The duo poses with Brule Elementary principal, Vanikin Leggett and some of the Pre-K students.

HUNTSVILLE — Anderson-Shiro won the battle on the mound in the 3A Division 2 Area round sweep over the Kirbyville Wildcats pulling out a pair of 2-1 wins at Sam Houston State University’s Don Sanders Stadium in Huntsville.

Gov. Greg Abbott last week signed a $1 billion private-school voucher bill into law in front of a large crowd at the Governor’s Mansion, the San Antonio Express-News and other media outlets reported. Abbott called the new law the biggest legislative win of his time in the governor’s office and touted the new program as the largest in the nation.

Known as possibly the earliest built home in Grimes County, the Fahey house is behind the locked gates of the Bovay Scout Ranch. It’s located a short way south of Navasota east of Highway 6, but Fahey didn’t build it. The two–room log cabin was built by the Muldrow family in 1836 and became the Fahey home in 1882. Today, other than Boy Scouts and families who camp at the Bovay Scout Ranch, the public to date is unaware of it.
A bill under consideration by the 89th Texas Legislature has caused more than a few temperatures to spike in Grimes County. Its acronym, HOT, for Hotel Occupancy Tax, is ironically appropriate. To refresh your memory, HB 4926 was filed in March on behalf of Grimes County Commissioners Court to allow the County to collect a HOT on the cost of overnight stays at motels, hotels, Airbnbs and bed & breakfast lodgings in Grimes County.
Tommy Hurst was born on October 4, 1939, to Marvin and Clero Hurst in Anderson, Texas. Tommy was the only child for 7 years. Tommy and his parents moved to Navasota when Tommy was 5 years old. He graduated from Navasota High School in 1958.
Michael “Mike” “Phat Grampy” Atkinson, 55, surrounded by those he loved most, greeted the Good Lord on May 14, 2025. He was born on January 14, 1970 in Navasota, Texas and always said “American by birth, and Texan by the grace of God!”
Edward Charles Leiber passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 13, 2025, in Navasota. Family and friends were invited to a visitation on Thursday, May 15, 2025, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Nobles Funeral Home. A celebration of Edward’s life was celebrated 10 a.m. Friday, May 16, 2025, at Friedens Church of Washington, with interment to follow at the church cemetery. Reverend Eric Dehmer, Retired Pastor, will officiate the services. Arrangements are under the direction of Nobles Funeral Chapel.
Roy Leon Talley, age 78 passed away on Thursday, May 15, 2025 with his wife by his side. Roy was born on December 23, to Sidney Leon Talley and Ruth Foster Talley whom preceded him in death.
